Do certain images in ';gay pride'; parades, etc., help to perpetuate a false stereotype of homosexuals?

Fox News, and certain other media outlets show these images. I am asking what do YOU think of these images. And do they help perpetuate fear and stereotypes of homosexuals?

Are the stereotypes accurate?

Thanks.Do certain images in ';gay pride'; parades, etc., help to perpetuate a false stereotype of homosexuals?
Absolutely yes. Not all gay men love to shop, act girlie, dress in drag (I really hate that one) or wear leather chaps everywhere we go. Some people see that and think we are all like that or act like that all the time. We don't. The purpose of the parade has lost its original significance as a political statement and has become a farce. I'd rather we go back to the days when it marked the riots at Stone Wall. Most of the kids today don't even know what Stone Wall is or anything about the riots much less what the triangle means.

And I'll have to throw in the all gays have HIV/AIDS one too. We educated ourselves and offer testing to educate others.Do certain images in ';gay pride'; parades, etc., help to perpetuate a false stereotype of homosexuals?
Many of the images focussed on by the media do help perpetuate stereotypes, in the same way that images of Irish people drinking green beer on 17th March helps perpetuate a certain stereotype.

The point it, not every LGBT person wanders around in sequins and banners every day. Parades are usually part of a celebration, and people put on their party gear and go for a good time, or to highlight a cause, but it's not necessarily a showcase for everyday clothing or real life behaviour.

The media like stereotypes because it makes thir job easy, and because stereotypes are often colourful and entertaining (glitzy drag queens probably make better tv than half a dozen businessmen in suits, for example).

Are the stereotypes accurate? Stereotypes usually reflect some sort of perceived reality, but that doesn't mean they are 'accurate'.

Accurate involves thought, discussion and research, not watching a parade and saying 'all irish drink green beer'.

Cheers :-)
Hey, either homosexuals are acting this way or they are not. I can assure you that when you see a man in leather chaps leading a naked man on a dog collar, during the gay pride parade or the Halloween Parade in the Village, they are trying to make a point.

I do not think that if large numbers of homosexuals are constantly participating in such behavior publicly, year after year, one could consider that a stereotype. It is no more a stereotype than soldiers marching in matching uniforms. It is an image they are deliberately displaying that they feel best represents them and what they stand for.

Yes, but you can't blame the media for covering these events. The lewd and disgusting behavior of these parade participants reflects the attitudes and values of a sub-set of American homosexuals. I don't think gays should be persecuted, but allowing them to marry is just wrong. We do need values and mores in our society, or we will devolve into the decadence that was the Roman Empire under Caligula.
Gay pride parades and drag shows are the worst things for the community! They make the community look like a bunch of fruity freaks! It took me forever to get my workplace use to the idea that im a Transgender not some fruitly Drag Queen, that just wants attention. Its a constant fight that many ';normal'; members of the community have to fight against
Well in their defense, I'm pretty sure those are ACTUAL images of parades, etc. that are not merely doctored-up for presentation. They're just reporting on what's happening on the scene at the time.

That being said, no stereotypes are ever accurate of an entire group of people. People need to draw their own informed conclusions about what they experience.
At the recent gay pride even in philadelphia, they had a ';Free HIV testing'; booth that i saw on FOX. My boyfriend recieved this as ';all gay people have aids';. Im sure he is not alone. I explained to him that PEOPLE have aids, not just gay people. But I must admit that it was disturbing to realize the stereotypes still exist.
There are a lot of gay people who want nothing to do with these things BUT the ones who are out there doing this garbage are the ones everyone sees and are the ones claiming to fight for gay rights- their decadence and lack of respectability is not good for anyone
generally stereotypes are founded in truth. that's how they get to be stereotypes in the first place. i'm not saying i like or subscribe to this mentality, but it is what it is. (i married a blonde and she has ';blonde'; moments-her words, not mine.)
Yes. It does. People think we are all like that. It's like judging straight people by what goes on a Mardi Gras. No, they are not accurate. I have never even been to one.
By the sheer numbers of these images makes people wonder just how much of a stereotype it really is.
What stereotype? All gay men act like Jack from Will and Grace. All gay women are butch like Ellen.
Images in gay pride parades show a militant group within the homosexual community that are in your face making the demand that they not only be accepted but approved. It gives the stereotype that all are that way and they are not, yet others of them feel its fine because they are involved.

the interviews i have seen there of homosexuals open acting in debauchery and also telling the interviewers, they dont get checked for aids, because if they have it they dont want to know.

homo sexuality objecting is what I am.

God loves everyone unconditionally, yet has spoken about Murder, homo sexuality, adultry etc.

In the last days people will call evil good and good evil.

today if you agree with the bible you are called a homophobic, and barated for it but the 5% of America that choses to follow that life style, along with the ones that join in mainly because it gives them a chance to attack bible believers even though they dont agree with it.. Yet they are willing to pay their tax dollars to support it. They are biting off their noses to spite those that have to look at them.

the answer is still the same the bible and Jesus the Messiah

Romans 1 says it is an act that comes from unthankfulness and worshiping the created person/s rather than the creator.

I Corinthians 6:9-13 gives the key to changed life by choice concerning this act, be it from deamon influence or other abuses growing up, a male isnt born a female,

';And such WERE some of you, but you have been cleansed by the blood.';

believe the Messiah=

Isaiah 52:13-53:12 teaches about messiah Jesus coming to die for our sins. ';He shall be exaulted... but first is marred more than any man, and he will be rejected.. and lay down his life to make atonement for our sins. He will die with the wicked and be burried with the rich.';

How i came to know the Jewish Messiah=come to the one that paid it all for you,

Jesus says speaking from heaven, ';I love you unconditionally, repent quickly of sin, even one lie. Behold I stand at your heart door and knock, if you ask me in to forgive sin, I will be your friend.';

So I prayed too ';Help me Messiah, i am sorry for my sins, come into my heart and help me, be my friend, amen.';

and a new wonderful life began,
