Pure entertainment! Don't you know that all the tv shows, besides the reality shows and the talk shows (and even some of THOSE!) are fiction? The only thing on TV that isn't fiction are the news and real sports. And unfortunately, sometimes the news are worse than fiction....
People sometimes need an escape from reality, and hence, they turn to fiction to dream of faraway lands and of different times, different places......

To feel happy tht life is easier as compared to the lead characters of stupid serials
For entertainment, and to feel good, get a laugh, shed a tear, etc.
