Why is it not blasphemy for the church to display false images of Jesus given that no genuine image exists?

Well for one that would not fall under the category of blasphemy. Now going with the 10 commandments, that's another story. Why is it not blasphemy for the church to display false images of Jesus given that no genuine image exists?
It is blasphemy but they do it anyway, and sickeningly enough, they pray to these statues. They are so lost and misled, and willingly too. God instructs us about praying to idols and symbols, and that is exactly what Catholics and other false organized religions do.

They make up graven images and statues, etc., and make them their gods, and pray to them. It's all so hypocritical.

Armageddon will be a wonderful day indeed. Why is it not blasphemy for the church to display false images of Jesus given that no genuine image exists?
Well one image exists, but it was the seventies, and he was in high school, and he didn't know it was going to be picture day. One bad hair day and the wrong decision to wear sandals later and he's portrayed as a hippie for the rest of his life, it's just not fair. Poor Jesus. He's an accountant now, he's not even like that.
Jesus did walk the earth with a human body ; people saw Him ; His face was remembered and depicted in various ways that emphasized various aspects of His teachings but His Holy Face was real flesh and rejections of Holy Images is tantamount to deny His Incarnation. Many Genuine Images exist starting with the Shroud of Turin which is probably the first photographic negative ever (do not pay attention to the erroneous C14 dating attempt that was made on middle age mending) ; and then, there are more, like the picture of the Divine Mercy or the portrait by Nancy Price ; so many more to mention but you seem to already have made up your mind and are probably not interested.
good question, and it should be.In the bible it mentions how it is sinful to worship monuments/statues/idols, and here we are, doing very that.Personally I think its wrong to worship jesus anyway,he was gods son, therefore it should be God that people worship, not morbid pendants/idols of jesus being crucified on a cross. If people want to learn about what Jesus did,its all in the Bible.
It is not blasphemy since Jesus really existed and allowed himself to be in human form. That means, he wanted to point out that God is not that far from us, that God is with us (emmanuel).

I bet you have a picture of your girlfriend/boyfriend in your wallet, since you want to be reminded of your love through the picture. Same analogy with the images in the church. =)
It is blasphemy. Many people and many churches think they know better than God, so they go their own way. But you will not find the True God in these churches. Even if we had a legitimate photograph of the real Jesus, the command not to bow down before an image made by men still stands.
Well first off to anyone who reads this, I don't know about catholics but christians most denomations do not pray to a picture of Jesus or mary I most certainly do not pray to a picture!

Well it is like a point of visual contact, because there is a biblical description of Jesus in the bible So i guess they just go with that as their biases for a picture of Him
Maybe you should have made a statement for your answer is in your question. Who says it isn't?

Thou shalt not make any graven images of anything in the heaven on under the heavens or on the earth below or any creeping creature.

OOPHS! slap my face, that's not a image its just a representation to help me pray or worship...Shut your mouth! but I m talking about Christ, can you dig it???
Good point. But, there is not just that. The second commandment already condemns making them, whether his face is seen or it isn't. I've always been bothered by the fact that he's always a white guy with long hair, also. Long hair was taken as a disgrace in those days. And, if he was an native Israelite, it also stands to reason that Jesus the Christ was not a caucasian.
It is not Blasphemy, but by the word of GOD, we are instructed not to worship any graven image. The Catholic Church has always had it's own rules and belief. Yet GOD's word is very clear.
Deut 13.

You could ask why is fraud illegal? Why is a man-god legal? You could ask many questions and the answer is the same. Fraud is what it is.
Because, as history has shown, the church can get away with anything; even murder.
The church has always had a monopoly on deciding what constitutes blasphemy...
Blasphemy is a dumb@ss word.
that's a good question, i've never thought about that.
