Why is there a distinction b/w graven images and false gods in the protestant version of the 10 commandments?

No need for Protestant.Read Exodus 20.Why is there a distinction b/w graven images and false gods in the protestant version of the 10 commandments?
A graven image is a false god, it is an icon that man worships, likewise, a false god is a graven image. Daniel chapter three tells us about Nebuchadnezzar's creation of a false god, a graven image made of gold. Because Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego would not worship this statue of gold, Nebuchadnezzar had them cast into a fiery furnace, where they did not die as he had planned, because of God's intervention.

We can even look back at Egypt, did they not worship stone figures?

There is only one, true living God.Why is there a distinction b/w graven images and false gods in the protestant version of the 10 commandments?
BC you can make a graven image of the true God.
Anything can be a false god if you give it more importance in your life than you give God. Graven images could be false gods if anyone was so mentally deficient as to actually worship them. Graven images that are not worshipped are just ... statues.
One is physical , like statues and idols

One is fictional or people elevated to diety

Catholics have both . Statues and Mary
There is no ';protestant version'; of the 10 Commandments. They only appear in the Old Testament. Graven images are what they say they are. Statues, paintings and other depictions of entities which are worshiped.
